The fade guide

Four fades: what each one is, how long it takes and how often to come back. Bring a photo of the cut you want, on your phone or printed, and we start from there.

  • A client in profile in a black cape with a hard-part skin fade and a trimmed beard, against a white brick wall

    Skin fade

Clippers go down to the skin at the bottom and blend up into the length on top. The sharpest contrast of the four.

    • In the chair: 45 to 60 minutes

    • Back every 2 weeks

    Book a skin fade
  • Black and white side view of a young man's short textured top with a taper fade at the neckline

    Taper fade

Length stays on the sides and tapers short only at the neckline and sideburns. Easy to wear to work.

    • In the chair: 40 minutes

    • Back every 3 to 4 weeks

    Book a taper fade
  • A client in profile in a cape with a curly textured top and a low fade that curves behind the ear

    Drop fade

The fade line drops behind the ear and curves toward the neck, so it follows the shape of your head.

    • In the chair: 45 minutes

    • Back every 2 to 3 weeks

    Book a drop fade
  • A barber's hands shaping the hairline around a client's ear with a straight razor, a bearded barber blurred in the foreground

    Burst fade

The fade arcs around the ear in a half circle and leaves length at the back. Good with curls, waves and coils.

    • In the chair: 45 to 60 minutes

    • Back every 2 to 3 weeks

    Book a burst fade
